One afternoon, whilst working as a GP, Dr Cybulska had yet another busy clinic day. She was consulting a lady who came to see her with menopausal symptoms. The patient was clearly suffering. Her story was very similar to many others that Dr Cybulska has consulted over the years – menopausal symptoms often have a very profound, multidimensional and mostly negative effect on the quality of life of the patients. Their hot flashes, brain fog, decreased libido, food cravings and unpredictable mood swings frequently affect their work, marriages and friendships.

Dr Cybulska knew exactly

how to manage this lady

Step 1...

...was to let her speak, without interruptions, and make sure her full story was heard. Dr Cybulska needed to understand exactly how this patient functioned in her daily life, where she worked, what her family was like, what mattered to her most, what were her interests and hobbies, but also her reservations and concerns, problems and worries.

Step 2...

...was to understand how her menopause symptoms interfered with her life.

Step 3...

...was a very important step. This was the time to equip the patient with all the information about menopause she needed, to answer all her questions and address all concerns. The lady wanted to know why menopause happens, how her symptoms compared with others, and what management options she had. She wanted to understand if her symptoms could be eased by natural approaches - was there any evidence that these worked? What about Hormone Replacement Therapy? Was this for her? What were the risks and side effects? Where could she find credible information about menopause?

Dr Cybulska observed that most patients coming with menopausal symptoms were first and foremost interested in receiving reliable and trustworthy information.

They wanted to comprehend the most current research and all the pros and cons of potential treatment. They needed to understand how their menopause was affecting their functioning in society and what could be done about it.

This is when Dr Cybulska realised she could start delivering specific, menopause focused consultations. Her primary objective from the beginning was to give patients generous time to fully discuss how menopause affected their lives, and hence she is offering full 45-minute long consultations. In addition, she launched the Style Medica website, which is designed to serve as a health information website providing credible, evidence-based information on the topics related to menopause and more widely - health optimisation.

Style Medica was born

Consequently, our blog covers a variety of topics related primarily to menopause. We go even further, as we realise menopause management is closely interconnected with maintaining general health and longevity as women age. Hence, we also write about lifestyle medicine - particularly how to optimise health and enjoy a longer, disease free life maintaining the finest state of physical and mental well-being.  Broadly speaking, this can be achieved by applying pillars of lifestyle medicine to your everyday routine. Your life can be optimised by appropriate nutrition, exercise, sleep patterns, minimisation of stress and avoidance of harmful substances.
